RISING INTERNATIONAL PIANO VIRTUOSO TO VISIT ACADIA
Internationally acclaimed piano virtuoso Ang Li, whose performance credits and talents reach well beyond her years, will visit Wolfville on Sunday, January 22, to give a recital in the Acadia Alumni series of classical chamber music concerts, Sunday Music in the Garden Room. The concert, which is free to all, occurs at 2 p.m. in the Garden Room of Acadia’s K.C. Irving Environmental Science Centre in Wolfville.
Ms. Li was born in Beijing but moved to Canada at the age of 12. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree from the Curtis Institute of Music and Master’s Degree from The Juilliard School. Her extensive repertoire ranges from early Baroque to contemporary piano music.
Ranked among the top 30 pianists in the world by the 2009 Van Cliburn Competition, she has appeared at the John F. Kennedy Centre for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., The Lincoln Centre for the Performing Arts in New York, Carnegie Hall, The National Arts Centre in Ottawa, National Centre for the Performing Arts in China, among many others. She has received accolades wherever she has performed.
In her Garden Room concert, Ang Li will perform Mozart’s Fantasie in C sharp minor, 7 Fanatasies by Brahms, three Schubert songs arranged for piano by Liszt, a Chopin Nocturne, and a Liszt Ballade.
Her performances can be heard frequently on CBC Radio and WQXR Radio. Ms. Li’s latest CD releases include music of Chopin, Debussy, Haydn and Wagner-Liszt (by China Record Corporation) and of Brahms and Schenk (by Contemporary Record Society) and of Brahms, Bowen, Debussy, Granados and Liszt (by Van Cliburn Foundation).
