Sunday Music in the Garden Room on Feb. 5 Features Acadia School of Music Faculty

The classical chamber music concert series, Sunday Music in the Garden Room, sponsored by the Valley Branch of the Acadia University Alumni Association, presents its sixth concert of the 2011-12 season of free afternoon concerts on Sunday, 5 February at 2 p.m., in the Garden Room of Acadia’s K.C. Irving Environmental Science Centre in Wolfville.

This concert features four members of Acadia’s full and part-time School of Music faculty playing three wonderful chamber music works. The instrumentalists are violinist Robert Uchida, concertmaster of Symphony Nova Scotia, who is well known to our audiences from his solo and chamber music performances both here and in Halifax; violinist and violist Laura Veeze, who has performed with several orchestras in the Netherlands and, since 2007 has been principal second violin of the Radio Kamer Filharmonie in the Netherlands; cellist Christoph Both, a full-time member of Acadia music faculty and chamber musician who is Chair of Strings in Acadia’s School of Music and also specializes in music technology; and pianist John Hansen, who is former Director of the School of Music and has appeared several times in this series. Their programme consists of a duo for two violins by Jean-Marie Leclair; a trio for violin, cello and piano by Ludwig van Beethoven and a quartet for piano and strings by Johannes Brahms.

The final Sunday Music in the Garden Room concert of the 2011-2012 season will occur on Sunday, 26 February at 2 p.m. It will be played by three musicians on five instruments (though not all at once!): piano, trumpet, piccolo trumpet, oboe and cor anglais (english horn). The instrumentalists are: Jennifer King, Curtis Deitz and Brian James.
